Thought for the day Ann Coulter's next book should be about REPUBLICAN treason I despise Ann Coulter. If I were blond I would despise her even more, because, lest anyone not recognize that she is an attractive woman as well as self-described smart, her pin up pictures on her web site reveal her to be a blond. Check out the "images." http://www.anncoulter.com Anyway, to be fair, she should start writing a book explaining how treasonous Republicans have cost this country control of its vital industries and caused the crumbling of our infrastructure. What country on earth is so stupid as to leave strategically important services such as power, water, and communications, in the hands of greedy entrepreneurs -- some of them not even AMERICAN greedy entrepreneurs -- who do not even use their profits to upgrade the infrastructure? Basic utilities must be heavily controlled by the government, since our very safety as a nation depends on these utilities always working and always being "up to date." As someone on CNN said (Wolf?) we have a third world power grid. He is not really wrong and apologized far too much for the comment. Our water and our power MUST be directly controllable by the government for our health and safety. Deregulation of vital industries is insane. It has led to higher prices and antiquated infrastructure. We should also be preventing the monopolization of our vital communications industry and assuring that it does not become a propaganda tool of the government as has happened with what I will loosely call the Bush "administration." To have basic utilities, communication, and transportation run by private businesses without enough oversight of their activities and without enough requirements to upgrade their equipment is to just beg for disaster. Regulation is an essential role of government. We didn't stop throwing sticks and stones at each other and join together in government only to have the government sanction our exploitation! Incidentally, when I say that the government must protect communication capabilities, I do not mean that they should control CONTENT. Communications must be run with due regard for "freedom of speech and press." Cheers to you all, frothing, Ginny |
